I bought this pot to replace a Farbarware of exact size (4 qt). I used the Farbarware so much it wore out. The Calphalon pot is a fair-enough replacement, but there are a couple of things I'm not crazy about.

The Calphalon is much heavier (than the Farbarware), which makes it more cumbersome to handle when it's full. Also, the Calphalon has a "fat tulip" shape (obviously I don't know what it's technically called) while the 4 quart Farbarware had straight up-and-down sides. Pouring out pasta, for example, is sloppier using the curvier Calphalon because pouring has a bit of an "avalanche" effect with all of the pasta suddenly dumping when trying to pour water out of the pot. And pouring the contents into a colander makes a lot more splashing than the controlled pouring from the straight-sided Farbarware.

One thing I do like about the Calphalon is its entirely metal/glass construction, which lends it to being used in the oven (the Farbarware had a plastic knob on the lid).

The reason I didn't buy another Farbarware exactly like the old one is that I couldn't find it anywhere. If someone knows where I can find it, please send me a comment!

I'm crazy about soup, but generally I only make it for myself. I've looked and looked for a sturdy smaller soup pot. This fits the bill perfectly. I can make enough soup for two or three very generous main-course servings. It makes more than enough for four or five first-course servings if I have guests. In addition to its practical side, this pot is so darned cute that I keep it on top of my stove. Definitely recommended. I have bought several Calphalon Unison items, and they all are wonderful.

We have found the pot quite satisfactory. The handles are not too hot to pick up with bare hands even with gas burners.
